Compas (Haitian Creole: konpa or kompa) is a modern méringue musical genre originated in Haiti with European, Indigenous and African roots. The genre was popularized in 1955 by Nemours Jean-Baptiste. It’s the main music in other islands such as Dominica & the French Antilles.
